HERE ARE SOME WAYS WE CAN ALL “SAVE THE WORLD”…
EAT LOCAL FOOD
Not just because it tastes better and is healthier, but because knowing your farmers and food producers is good for your soul.
Because knowing where your food comes from helps you understand your connection to your community, your bioregion, your Earth.
Local food is fresher, healthier and tastes better, because it spends less time in transit from farm to plate, and therefore, loses fewer nutrients and incurs less spoilage.
Let’s lower our carbon footprint. Let’s check the labels on the fruits and vegetables in the grocery stores and buy the ones that originate closest to us. Let’s eat the fruits and vegetables that grow in the current season. Let’s buy from local farms or farmers markets. Let’s walk into our yard and pick from our garden or go out to our community garden.
Let’s look at what we are throwing out. Are we using single use items? Is there an alternative? Does your purchases come with a lot of packaging?
Let’s reduce our waste to zero.
Switch to less wasteful alternatives.
– Use reusable water bottles
– Bring your own mug to the coffee shop
– Say no to straws or bring your reusable one
– Use reusable fruit and vegetable bags with your reusable grocery bags.
– Is there an alternative to single use items?
Look at your trash can and recycling bin to see what you throw away. Are there alternatives?
In a Wall Street Journal article by Christopher Mims (March 2, 2019) he tells us that we have gone from 4 billion pounds of plastic produced in 1950 to 600 billion pounds produced today. China was purchasing our recyclables until 2017. Now plastics are piling up, and entities are burning them – causing a bigger strain on our environment.
Recycling may not be the answer any longer.
Zero Waste is.
REDUCE CARBON FOOTPRINT
One informative summary of what each of us can do now is available on the Drawdown website and in their book. There are actions that we individuals can take to make a difference now – reducing food waste and eating a plant-rich diet have a big impact on carbon production.
Read the book, visit their website or just take a look at some of their top impacts listed below that we can do to reverse Global Warming.
